In this review I take a look at the indie Strategy RPG Dark Deity. It wears its Fire Emblem inspiration on its sleeve, but it’s more than a simple imitation: Dark Deity is pure Strategy RPG BLISS!

  1. It looks kinda like Fire Emblem and Shining force had offspring, glad you mentioned the pixel art at the end. Watching your review I was really impressed with how good the art is.

  2. How is the AI? Is it like in Fire Emblem where all the enemy units will suicide themselves into your overpowered units? Or do they stay back and use strategy like in something like Tactics Ogre

  3. Definitely gives off the old school FE vibes. I wouldn't mind if the relationship mechanic got removed entirely, but I'd really like to see more games with branching narrative. For example, old FE games had 'X' chapters that could only be unlocked if you met the right conditions in past battles. It adds to the replay value if there are multiple endings especially when the game is only 20 hours.

  4. After playing Growlanser IV and Arc the Lad Spirit of the Twilight I can't go back to those linear SRPG like these with no exploration to speak of sadly. I want to go in towns, kingdoms, dungeons, solve puzzles, do side quests. I feel like Fire Emblem lack that quality I wanted from most SRPG while a few SRPG far surpass FE in so many ways.

  5. Absolutely loving the game so far! The combat and design elements of the game are incredibly well done! The only thing I’ve found slightly annoying is that there’s no mid map suspend function so I had to make sure I made enough time to finish maps and get to a save.

The character designs are great and I’m curious to know who your favorite is! Mine is Sloane lol

  6. Threw it on my wishlist, I'll pick it up when it gets down to 20 bucks. Sounds fun though the maps artwork looked a little meh to me but if the battles are half as fun as you claim it'll be worth it!
