  1. Honestly, it looks extremely dated and unpolished even compared to FE6. As soon as the honeymoon phase wears off people will start critiquing the game a lil more roughly.

  2. Another thing they could use is a confirmation button for returning to the Main Menu. I was recording a let's play of Chapter 4 and when I went to turn the battle animations back on for the boss, I accidently clicked on Main Menu and promptly lost all my progress. -__-

  3. Outside of some clunky controls with both gamepad and keyboard/mouse, and not being able to see stats while promoting, especially in cases of immediate promotion upon recruiting as seen with Brooke, Sara, and Samara. The calcing issue is also relatively obnoxious. But overall it's very enjoyable.

  4. There's this weird stark contrast between the character models and the map textures that just feel like they got photoshopped together, idk how to describe it. Like the character models are clear and crisp visually and the map textures seem a bit fuzzy.

  5. They need more graphic combat animations like Shining Force. I've been waiting for a new game parallel to SF. (Nothing really does it for me, not even Fire Emblem). I hope this one can capture the same magic, but they gotta make some improvements to get my money.

  6. FUN EASTER EGG; So, while you were talking on the weapon upgrades, you paused for a bit on the ranger options. I read the descriptions of each, and the longbow says “One smooth motion. No hesitation.” THAT is a quote that Shinon says to Rolf in a cutscene in Radiant Dawn, right before the Greil Mercenaries are reintroduced. (Radiant Dawn is my favorite fire emblem game, and I must have watched that scene over eighty times)

  7. Personally? I say no. Here's some issues that I've encountered
    – Nothing is explained, you have to figure things out on your own. (there's no WTA btw, there's something called Advantage vs Disadvantage, which is never explained properly, the only thing I know is that your mastery stat effects this)
    – Sound effects are awful, and there's no sound effects with the cursor and menus in combat
    – The way units move on the map is hilarious, especially in cutscenes, they just drift facing down
    – The character sprites in battle is freaking awful, everyone has the same body regardless of character sex. For example, you can have a cute dainty girl character like Sothia, but in combat she's a big buff dude.
    – Map design is awful
    – Music is very dull
    – Story is meh, not memorable.
    – not so much a con, and it's okay and more of an opinion, but I'm not a particular fan of the "deviant art anime" style, that you see a lot in budget indie games.

  8. On the "feel" of the battle over hard math, I find that a quick weapon check will tell you everything you need. A bunch of green weapons? You're not dodging, get someone tanky. A bunch of red weapons? You're not tanking, get someone dodgy. Blue weapons are treated the same way as killer weapons – murder on sight and don't give it an enemy phase. Yellow weapons? They're going to be dodgy, equip a green weapon on a bruiser.

Also beyond this, it becomes important to have a mix of unit types and armor types. I hated crushing damage because the weapons are heavy, but they're supposed to kill armored units. They don't need speed. I paid for it later on in one of the hardest levels for me yet. You basically need one of each damage type and one of each armor type. It's refreshing.

  9. I watched a lp until they deserted the army really early in the game and it's just ridiculous and makes no sense. Idk if I can take the game seriously after that. Like, they've just been made into soldiers and they instantly desert for no reason? Cause some random people told em to?

  10. To answer the "question" of this title. The name of the genre is strategy rpg. Fire Emblem is one of them, Dark Diety is one of them, there are hundreds of others in this catagory (Disgaea, Front Mission, Tactics Ogre Battle, Final Fantasy Tactics, etc…). Dark Diety is NOT Fire Emblem by another name. Thx.

  11. If you like FE, you should like this game. Yes, there are some issues that needs to be worked out but gameplay wise it's what I want from a game. It's more FE than Nintendo's own FE mobile game.
