  1. The game was super rough on launch, it really should have had a few more weeks of dev, maybe with more rigorous testing. That being said the devs seem to really care, and the patches they've put out so far have already fixed a lot of my most major problems with the game.

I think in like a week's time when they've polished everything up nicely, it'll definitely be a game worth recommending. Its just a shame it launched how it did.

  2. Overall I agree with you, there are a lot of small things that could have been polished before release, but overall I'm actually quite happy with this game and the fact that there's been 2 patches already fixing a lot of bugs and adding in some improvements makes me think this game is going to be in a REALLY good state in a month or two.

    Also it's just really fun.

  3. should we really call you bops now ? Either way ive seen a few screenshots of late game maps which arent looking finished at all.
So i might just let it update and buy it when its all done and shiny.

  4. As for actual decisions that seem final, the one I take most issue with is probably tying gold rewards to turn count. I get that it's trying to make turn count matter somehow, but I feel it hurts lower-skilled players that need more time to complete maps by giving less resources to the player long-term. I didn't think of the percentage modifiers being unintuitive but I do think they're often insignificant. A 20% bonus to defense is usually 1 or 2 points, so why not just provide a small flat bonus instead of a percentage?

Also, the -Dex debuff for dying is called "Missing Finger" which makes it tempting to try and get someone killed 11 times by the correct weapon type

  5. Hey Bopper, what GPU do you have? I didn't see one listed in your specs, but I saw you have a 9400f, which doesn't have integrated graphics, and now I'm curious haha

  6. Main thing that bugs me is the way the promotion happens. Specifically that when you reach the level you don’t see the character’s stats until after.
I don’t have a problem with the gold reward for turn count. I’m only at chapter 7 but so far it seems like just killing enemies gives plenty.

I wish I knew I could just rush the boss for the inn chapter.

Edit: turns out the promotion issue was patched yesterday. 👍

  7. 4:45 I think there is a lot value in giving a lot of information to the player in a strategy game, but also by having mechanics and events that the player has no information or control over the game can test player flexibility, fire emblem does this really well with things like randomized player and enemy growths.

  8. The game is super rough right now even beyond the things Bopper mentioned there are also issues with skills not working correctly or at all and weird discrepancies between displayed hit/avoid/damage values and the actual calculations (for example 100% misses).

That being said as someone who is up to chapter 15 on hard the game is quite interesting and fun. The devs put in a good amount of effort in making each chapter different from the last in both design, objective, and enemy composition and it definitely makes the wide range of classes stand out more. Personally I'd recommend waiting for the game to receive a patch to at least fix the things that are outright broken and hopefully also make some qol changes.

  9. Yeah, the issues plaguing the game makes it really hard to get invested in the gameplay. Some units get off-grid and occupy two tiles at once (and the game crashes if theyre defeated while in that state, which is painful as heck when it happens to enemy units)

  10. Regarding the whole Advantage System: I agree wholeheartedly on this, it's just a mess of numbers and equations that only serve to make the whole experience more confusing. I believe an SRPG's equations should be simple to understand and would preferably shy away from things like "this Unit deals 35% more damage to Chain armor but 10% less damage to Leather armor".

That said, one thing I'm thankful for is just how easy it is to ignore these if you're smart with your Promotion options and weapon Upgrades. A 20% damage reduction doesn't stop my Witch Hunter Garrick from damn near one-shotting several enemies with a Tier 4 War Bow, which I got as early as Ch 13 (there are 28 chapters total, as I understand it).

Of course, that's only a single example regarding a Unit that's already recognized as super strong, but my point is that I don't think the Advantage system should deter you, as you can pretty easily just ignore it altogether. It's only there to reward the players who choose to run the numbers to that degree.

  11. my main issue is really just a nitpick but the OST just,,,, doesn't do anything for me? idk, maybe i've been spoiled by fire emblem but none of the music in dark deity really stands out to me, and it makes the strategic gameplay feel all the more monotonous with the generic background music looping over and over

  12. Now that I think about it, the stat penalty for being defeated in this game reminds me of Warsaw and its injury mechanic, Warsaw being a game similar to the Eldritch RPG Darkest Dungeon. So honestly, I can't help but feel like Warsaw and Dark Deity are kinda in the same boat as far as their inspiration becoming their identity goes. Except for you know, the quality of game. That is a point I'ma leave untouched for I haven't played Dark Deity, but it does sound kinda bad.

  13. I think permanent injury compared to permadeath is equally as thematically realistic but doesn't urge for a reset when you get 2% crit by a random enemy. To be honest, I think getting crit and then using that unit with a chip on their shoulder sounds way better for personal attachment than losing and forgetting them as you continue with the game.

  14. I must say, I'd prefer it if instead of a stat penality (or in addition to it), they should've also reduced Growth rates a little bit with each death. This would've been a long term punishment that intensifies you to still not let your units die too often.

  15. What about the maps that were supposedly completely unfinished in the late game?
And the Ost was never brought up. This much I saw as much on your streams.. It's repetitive, doesn't set tone well, and generally not very impressive. It very much takes away from what I'd expect from a game like this.
Map design also doesn't look fantastic. Even looking at like FE6, the maps are more interesting and do more unique things. – Enemy spam. Oh wait, this game does that, too.

  16. nah, just a copy cat. or rather they tried to renovate fireemblem but fail. The biggest issue is no variations in weapons to use. some of fire emblem fun lie in secret encounter to get weapon, etc. FE is a much better rpg game. this game feels cheap

  17. when I saw your stream first thing that bothered me was how high everyone's starting hp was.
combined with everyone having 100+% growth it seems like hp is going to reach stupid high values rather quickly? at least compared to most fe games

  18. Just to add to the "being patched once" thing, they're doing patches everyday right now, so I dont think it will be long until most of these small issues are resolved

For example, the box not fitting to the edge of the screen thing has been dealt with on yesterdays patch I think

  19. map design, music, sound effects, jarring cuts between battle scenes, elementary school level writing and story. all terrible. this is barely better than an amateurs attempt on RPG maker.

  20. The game is in a rough spot guys, i don't recommend it to get it rn. Besides releasing it in this state is kind of dirty tbh.
Wait for futures updates and see what they do if you are still interested.

  21. I will say no. The artwork for topdown view are really bad…. the mechanics not that good either. You can even solo the game… not sure whether is that a good design. Tbh is worse than awakening in terms of that…

This game needs a major overhaul

  22. Hearing you so positive makes me wonder if I'm not being too harsh on this game. Did you finish the game on either difficulty? I enjoyed it at first but the cracks and issues became much more prevalent mid to late game IMO. There are some unbelievably bad maps and decisions that I feel like would warrant discussion, but again maybe I'm being harsh.
